Meditation : In Ashtanga yog there are eight parts or steps, which are 1] Yama 2] Niyama 3] Asan 4] Pranayam 5] Pratyahara 6] Dharana 7] Dhyan 8] Samadhi.

Meditation corresponds to 6th and the 7th step. Meditation is also method to connect with your subconscious mind.
